Our
Purpose Statement |
Our purpose statement flows
from the insight of two important passages of Scripture:
The Great Commandment
“Teacher,
which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus
replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the
first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:
Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the
Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40
The Great Commission
Then
Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 |
.
These two statements by
Christ focus on five important purposes for the church: |
Evangelism
Worship
Ministry
Fellowship
Discipleship
Why do we believe that a
purpose statement is important?
(1)
It answers
the question, “Why?”
(2)
It
motivates us.
(3)
It is
a tool of measurement.
(4)
It
helps us stay focused on the future.
(5)
It
describes the purpose and goal of our ministry.
Therefore,
our purpose statement reads as follows:
Our
Purpose: |
“Helping
people say yes to Christ (evangelism) by loving God
(worship), meeting
needs (ministry), building relationships (fellowship), and
equipping believers (discipleship). |
